Sometime last year (I think), Microsoft unveiled its Flash competitor, Silverlight.  When version 2.0 came out sometime recently, it brought with it Deep Zoom.  I won’t give any more details about it, but it lets you create fun ways to present photos (read more about it by clicking here).  Well, a developer came up with a web-based viewer where anyone can create a Deep Zoom implementation using Flickr photos.  Here are my beach photos:

Get Microsoft Silverlight

If you don’t already have Silverlight installed, just click the link.  It’s a quick and small installation, and you’ll be doing yourself a favor.  I’m not sure I’ll be using this all that much, but I figured it was worth sharing.

And that’s all until I get back.  Europe: here I come!

Update: I’m not sure what happened here, but even on a computer with Silverlight installed, this didn’t work.  Oh well.  It looked cool when I was building it.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up.  I’m heading to Europe for work and fun tomorrow night.  My itinerary goes something like this:

  • Leave PHL at 10PM on Tuesday, arrive in London at 10AM on Wednesday.
  • Drive about 3 hours north to Kingston Upon Hull
  • Watch 3 surgeries on Thursday morning
  • Drive 1.5 hours west to Manchester and spend the night
  • On Friday morning, fly from Manchester to Hanover
  • Drive about 2.5 hours across northern Germany to Berlin
  • Fly back to Philly on Sunday afternoon

So, if you ever happen to be wondering where I’ll be over the next few days, now you know.  Of course that means I won’t be adding any photos, but I’ll be taking plenty over the trip and will add some almost as soon as I get back.

Oh, and I will be watching the wonderful EuroTrip on the way over.

No photos on this one, but this was too interesting to not mention.  Does anyone else notice anything odd about this weather map?

Odd Weather Map

I just got a text from Matt down in New Orleans saying it was snowing.  Sure enough, there it is.

Snow on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans on 12/11/2008

Speaking of snow, for the next few weeks, the forecast for this very blog calls for snow!

I’ve finally finished up the photos from my early-October trip to the beach.  Yeah, I’m 2 months behind.  With some in this set (including the rest only on Flickr), I wasn’t crazy about how they came out of the camera.  I suppose they were good photos, but they just didn’t do it for me.  So I went a little artsy on them in the editing room.  This is especially true with the first and fourth here.  The second one just got some enhancement, but I wouldn’t call it artsy like the others.

The next set will be the much anticipated (well, it was back in November) trip to Valley Forge, complete with leaves falling.  It’s a huge one, so it’ll probably take a while.

Oh it’s been a while.  I hope everyone had a very nice Thanksgiving.  It’s one of my favorite holidays of the year, but any day that revolves around food and family is a winner.  Here are a few photos from my dinner.

While we were down in the Keys, Brendan had a project for his photography class to take care of.  So we wandered around Key West taking all kinds of random photos.  Spent a few hours out, actually.  And then another couple of hours out on Thursday night.  Eventually I’ll get those shots of his up.  There are some really good ones.  Maybe next time he’ll have a useful camera so that I can take some of my own as well.
